Ruiyuan has 14 years of valuable experience in the areas of individual income tax and employment tax in Singapore. He spent 9 years with two of the Big 4 accounting firms before he took on the role of the Regional Expatriate Tax Manager in a global bank overseeing the expatriate tax policy in the APAC region.
Prior to joining Grant Thornton Singapore, he was the Regional Expatriate Tax Manager with one of the biggest US investment banks. In that role, Ruiyuan was tasked to manage the expatriate tax policy and projects, including tax audits from tax authorities, in the APAC region. As the expatriate tax advisor, he was heavily involved with the development of efficient tax processes and worked closely with teams based in different countries for the successful implementation of those processes. Ruiyuan also supported his colleagues within the HR teams when there were complex cross border expatriate tax matters and provided advices on how to effectively mitigate tax risks and ensure tax compliance in the different jurisdictions.
At Grant Thornton, Ruiyuan has worked on numerous cross-borders projects, including the implementation of equity plans in Singapore for companies (listed and private companies), coordination of regional tax services for clients, and advices on complex employment arrangements of senior employees of companies and the associated employer tax compliance issues. He also works closely with employment lawyers and immigration advisors to deliver holistic advisory services to clients on a wide range of global mobility tax issues.
With his experiences in professional accounting firms and as an in-house advisor, he understands the challenges of moving talents across locations and how important employment tax compliance is both from individual and corporate perspectives.
